Short Version: No Tracking Cookies

pdfprivately does not use any tracking cookies, analytics cookies, marketing cookies, or third-party cookies of any kind. We only use essential browser localStorage for your preferences (language, theme, AI settings) — and nothing leaves your device.

What We Do NOT Use

  • No tracking cookies — we do not track your browsing behavior across sites
  • No analytics cookies — no Google Analytics, no Matomo, no Plausible, no counters
  • No marketing cookies — no retargeting, no ad personalization, no pixel tags
  • No third-party cookies — we do not embed any third-party scripts that set cookies
  • No session cookies — we do not maintain server-side sessions
  • No fingerprinting — we do not use any browser fingerprinting techniques

What We Use (LocalStorage Only)

The only data we store is in your browser's localStorage for purely functional purposes. This data never leaves your device:

  • Language PreferenceYour selected interface language so you don't have to choose it every time
  • AI Provider SettingsYour chosen AI provider and API key (stored locally, never sent to our servers)
  • Theme PreferenceYour light/dark mode selection

Managing Your LocalStorage

Since we use localStorage instead of cookies, you can manage or clear this data at any time through your browser settings:

  • Chrome:Settings → Privacy and Security → Site Settings → All sites → pdfprivately.com
  • Firefox:Options → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Manage Data
  • Safari:Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
  • Edge:Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies and site data

You can also clear localStorage at any time by opening your browser's Developer Tools (F12), going to the Application tab, and selecting "Clear site data."

Why We Don't Use Cookies

Our privacy-first philosophy extends to cookies. Since all PDF processing happens client-side and we do not have accounts, there is simply no need for traditional cookies:

  • No session management needed (no server-side sessions to maintain)
  • No analytics required (we do not track usage — it would violate our privacy promise)
  • No advertising (we do not show ads or affiliate links)
  • No third-party embeds (no social media widgets, no comment systems, no external fonts)

Third-Party Services

pdfprivately does not embed any third-party services that set cookies. We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook pixels, Twitter widgets, YouTube embeds, Disqus comments, or any other third-party services that could track you. The only external resources loaded are essential application files (JavaScript, CSS, WebAssembly binaries) from our own domain and CDN, which do not set cookies.
